Rosslie's Guesthouse, Lynnwood Ridge, Pretoria

About Rosslie's

Rosslie's guesthouse embraces a homestead of 40 years standing, architect designed in the Cape Dutch idiom. On plan form, rooms flow one into another with the minimum of corridors. The exterior shows white textured walls, simple gables and dark slate roofs, offset against a green garden with abundance of trees. A large pergola with vines shades the parking at the entrance, inside white boundary walls and black palisades.

Recently another facility was added for the comfort of guests, by forming ramps, next to the steps to the entrance, especially for the handling of baggage on wheels! It so happened that, just after completion, we had a guest in a wheelchair who found the ramps quite convenient!

The interior has clay tile floors and yellow-wood ceilings on black stained beams in the living areas and kitchen; white walls and numerous paintings. Most of the rooms display exquisite antique furniture collected over 40 years with love and distinction by the owners. Each piece has a fond tale to tell about its origin.

Having had the benefit of 20 years in the hospitality business of which 16 years with 8 guest rooms, and having received guests from more than 50 countries, not to speak of every corner of the RSA, the art of conversation and good manners in hospitality have been tuned to make every guest comfortable. After all Rosslie's slogan is: "IT'S LIKE COMING HOME!"

Guest Areas

The dining room/lounge opens out on to a patio where guests can relax under shade, enjoying Pretoria's renowned wonderful windless weather.

One of the gems in the house is a breathtaking glass-in-concrete window (4 meters high) by the unique artist, Leo Theron, in the double volume of the Studio. Now deceased, his works have become invaluable.

Breakfast (and occasionally dinner) is served in the dining room where Rosslie will treat guests with varied and sumptuous dishes, being a cook who passionately enjoys preparing food and reads recipe books for her leisure.

On rare occasions Rosslie still – just for the love of it – caters for small functions, where excellent cuisine and impeccable personal service form the hallmark of a memorable occasion.
